The Tongariro River at Rangipo monitor site is located approximately 100 metres downstream of Rangipo Dam, NZMS 260 T20: 499-178.

The minimum flow at the Tongariro River at Rangipo is 0.6 cubic metres per second.

Recreational releases of 30 cubic metres per second will occur on three separate Sunday's between 1 February and 30 September each year, in the same weekend as recreational flow releases from Poutu Intake. The dates for recreational releases are set in agreement between Genesis Energy and the New Zealand Recreational Canoeing Association.
